San Francisco advances to CBI Finals

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Frankie Ferrari (pictured) scored 18 points and handed out six assists to lead San Francisco to a 65-62 win over Campbell in the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational.
The Dons will meet North Texas, which advanced to the CBI Finals last night with a 90-68 victory over Jacksonville State.
San Francisco led for almost 35 minutes in securing the victory. However, after a Matt McCarthy tip-in gave the Dons a 63-55 lead with 3:42 to play, USF could not manage a field goal the rest of the way as Campbell chipped away at the lead, eventually cutting it to 64-61 with 35 seconds to go. However, the Dons held on to move onto their first postseason finals since winning the 1956 NCAA Tournament, a team which featured greats Bill Russell and K.C. Jones.
McCarthy ended the game with 15 points and 14 rebounds while Chase Foster and Jordan Ratinho tallied 12 points apiece.
The Camels, who converted 16 San Francisco turnovers into 17 points while turning the ball over only five times themselves, were led by the 18-point, six-rebound effort of Chris Clemons. Clemons, who scored 67 points in Campbell’s first two CBI games, was held to 5-of-17 shooting from the field and just 1-of-8 from three in this game. Marcus Burk netted 14 points and Mogga Lado added 10 points.
The best-of-three CBI Finals between USF and North Texas will begin in San Francisco on Monday, March 26 and continue at North Texas on Wednesday, March 28. Should a third game be needed, it will be held at North Texas on Friday, March 30. The CBI Finals will again air on ESPNU with Roy Philpott and Jason Capel calling the game.
