DENTON, Texas – North Texas used a 10-0 run to start the second half to pull away from San Francisco and earn a 69-55 win to force a decisive Game 3 in the best-of-three College Basketball Invitational Finals.
Leading 33-31 at intermission, the Mean Green scored the first 10 points of the second half to take a 43-31 lead. San Francisco’s Souley Boum ended the run with a 3-pointer at 14:56 to make it 43-34 but 26 seconds later, Tope Arikawe’s layup put the lead at 45-34 and it never got closer than that the rest of the way.
Jorden Duffy scored a team-high 15 points to lead North Texas, which also received 13 points from Roosevelt Smart (pictured), 12 points from Zachary Simmons, and 10 points from Arikawe.
Boum led the Dons with 16 points while Frankie Ferrari netted 10 points.
Game 3 of the CBI Finals will be played on Friday at North Texas with tip-off set for 7:00pm (ET) on ESPNU. Roy Philpott and Jason Capel will once again be on the call. This marks the ninth time in 11 years that the CBI Finals will go to a Game 3. The home team has won the CBI six times in the last 10 years, including the last two years. Loyola Chicago was the last team to win the CBI on the road, accomplishing that feat in 2015. In 2013, Santa Clara became the last team to win the CBI on the road after losing Game 2.
