Loyola Maryland smothers George Mason, 73-58

FAIRFAX, Va. – Loyola Maryland held George Mason to a season-low 33.3 percent shooting from the field in garnering a 73-58 win in the First Round of the 2017 CBI presented by Five Four.

Four Greyhounds scored in double digits, led by Cam Gregory and his 16 points. He also had a team-best eight rebounds. Jarred Jones and James Fives netted 14 points apiece and Chuck Champion scored 11 points.

Otis Livingston led the Patriots with 19 points, three rebounds, and two assists, while Jaire Grayer chipped in 17 points (6-of-11 FG) and grabbed eight rebounds. Justin Kier tallied a season-best 11 points

With Loyola leading by 25 (56-31), the Patriots began to mount a comeback. Mason utilized an 11-0 run to cut the lead to 14 (56-42) with 6:32 remaining. Then, after Loyola made it 60-45, the Patriots forced a number of Greyhound turnovers and trailed by just 10 at 60-50 and 62-52. However, Loyola withheld and emerged with the win.
